The celesta was first invented in 1886 by Charles Victor Mustel in Paris and further developed by the Schiedmayer family in Stuttgart. It soon became a unique and indispensable musical instrument for the realisation of the special sound effects required in the repertoire of the late 19th and 20th century.

The worldwide success of the Schiedmayer celestas is the result of using the finest materials and highly specialised craftsmen with a long experience of building these instruments.

All the Schiedmayer celestas have the action placed above the resononators. This traditional construction allows the production of the full unsurpassed sound of our instruments. We use a full size grand Piano keybed but not a grand piano action. With the grand piano action the sound plates would be placed under the resonators.
